1.      Tell us about your work in VAM 36. Give us an idea of the conceptual framework you used in creating this piece. What inspired it? Why did you choose to use that particular medium? Why that particular perspective, set of colours, subject matter, etc.

White and Black is sculpted from white Carrera marble – the same material used for Michelangelo’s David.  Is the piece a metaphor, a riddle or a even a joke? Not everything is white like the marble, nor Black and White, nor White and Black.   The redness of the interior hints at something more below the skin. Are the words hinting at separation by being on opposite sides or is integration implicit in being of one piece?  Is anything certain? A piece to tease an opinion from you, the audience.

2.      How would you describe your creative process? How has your style changed since you started, and what do you think is the reason behind the change?

Creation, for me, is the flash of lightning that emerges from the ether for a moment. My job is to capture that moment. I have no singular style, nor medium, so change is a constant.

3.      If time and money were no object, what artistic project would you like to undertake? What about this project fascinates you, and how do you think it will engage the viewer?

I would oversee a project to create a very large version – say 40 feet high – of my signature piece, “Four Pillars”.  This piece is a commentary on contemporary global society derived from the classical precept of the Four Pillars that constitute a balanced and progressive society. Namely: good governance, religion, family and commerce.
