Happy 25th Anniversary to the Art Gallery of Mississauga! As the AGM turns 25, Curator & Director of Programmes Stuart Keeler asks, “What is a Public Art Gallery?”
The AGM is proud to present the launch of How We See It, a compendium of ideas, concepts and musings that aims to open up a continued dialogue about the role of the Public Gallery in Mississauga. How do we re-imagine the future of exhibition practices? What is the role of a Public Art Gallery?
How We See It will be launched at the AGM 25 Year Birthday Bash on Thursday, October 25, 5 – 9 pm.
What is a Public Art Gallery in Mississauga? The AGM looks to its community for the answer. The result is this publication: a compendium of ideas, concepts and musings that aims to open up a continued dialogue about the role of the Public Gallery in Mississauga at this time and into the future. Turning 25 Years old is a milestone for the AGM, and this too arrives at an auspicious time in the history of Mississauga: Mississauga Celebration Square is revitalizing the city centre, and the Marilyn Monroe buildings down the street have garnered international attention. What role then does the Art Gallery of Mississauga play in these developments?
The purpose of this publication is to encourage a space of dialogue to open on the topic of the role of a Public Art Gallery in Mississauga at this time. As well, how do we re-imagine the future of exhibition practices? Mississauga is an inspiring multicultural city at an interesting point in time. Cultural production can open up; this city can make anything happen!
Let’s all engage, think and inspire into the future to re-animate the AGM! Genius Loci, the 25 Year Anniversary Exhibition, conceptualizes the action of this book project, looking to the past while experimenting with new ideas into the future. As always, artists and cultural producers lead the charge, with the AGM is a space of experimentation and new forms of visual art engagement!
