Happy 25th Anniversary to the Art Gallery of Mississauga! As the AGM turns 25, Executive Director Robert Freeman muses on the future of the gallery. What will the next 25 years bring?
The 25th Anniversary provides the opportunity to look to the past with the intention of shaping a new future. 2012 has been a wonderful year of new initiatives, exhibitions and programmes – ultimately, the role of a Public Art Gallery is determined by the public it serves.
A key component of the Art Gallery of Mississauga’s new future is facility expansion. The AGM will be moving forward with the Facility Planning Study conducted by the Lord Cultural Group, under the direction of Catherine Tanner. As well, the AGM is committed to continue to think, broaden and develop new programmes and exhibitions that will raise the gallery profile and revitalize the arts community of Mississauga.
This publication seeks to question what the AGM can and will become. It is not a matter of what the next 25 years will bring to the Art Gallery of Mississauga, but rather, what the Art Gallery of Mississauga wants to become in the next 25 years.
The AGM is grateful to be part of such a vibrant arts community. Thank you Mayor Hazel McCallion and City Councillors passionate about the arts, as well as to dynamic and engaging arts organizations The AGM is now, more than ever, a place to discover, learn and engage. As always, I think the Gallery Staff for all their hard work. The AGM is moving forward to step beyond “Mississauga’s best kept secret” into an established, recognized regional presence. I invite everyone to become involved in shaping the AGM’s future. Now is the time!
